OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has issued a public warning to users of ChatGPT, urging caution when relying too heavily on the AI chatbot. Speaking in the inaugural episode of OpenAI’s official podcast, Altman emphasized that while the technology is powerful, it is still prone to inaccuracies and confusion. "People put a lot of trust in ChatGPT, but AI sometimes produces incorrect information. So, don’t place too much trust in this technology," Altman said, stressing the importance of user awareness. Despite ChatGPT’s impressive capabilities, he made it clear that the tool is not entirely reliable.
Altman reiterated that, even with the latest upgrades—including persistent memory and a new ad-supported model—ChatGPT is not yet a fully accurate tool. “We have to be honest about the limitations of the technology. It’s not completely reliable,” he said.
The podcast also touched upon growing concerns surrounding user privacy, especially in light of these new features. Altman acknowledged that OpenAI must maintain a high standard of transparency and honesty with its users. His comments come amid a wave of copyright lawsuits, including a major case filed by The New York Times, accusing OpenAI of using its content without permission.
In a separate conversation on his brother Jack Altman’s podcast, Sam Altman also revised his earlier stance on AI hardware. He previously claimed that existing computers were sufficient for AI, but now believes that new types of hardware will be necessary to meet the demands of future AI systems.
"Current computers were built for a world without AI. As AI becomes more integrated into our lives, it will need a different kind of hardware—systems that can better understand users and adapt to their lives," he said. Altman’s remarks highlight both the rapid evolution of AI technology and the responsibility of developers to guide users through its complexities.
