Air India has decided to stop the non-stop flight service connecting Delhi and Washington DC, the capital of the United States, from September 1, 2025. The company stated that the suspension of flights on this route is due to the shortage of available aircraft in the fleet, operational difficulties on long-haul flights, and restrictions on the route.

Air India clarified that the work of updating (retrofitting) the facilities inside their 26 Boeing 787-8 aircraft is underway. Also, due to the closure of Pakistan's airspace, the routes of many long-haul international flights have to be changed, which increases travel time and adds to costs and technical difficulties.

After September, passengers who have already booked on this route will be directly contacted by the company. They will be given the option of flights on alternative routes or a full refund. According to Air India, the possibility of resuming services on this route in the future has not been ruled out. However, the direct Delhi–Washington flight service will remain temporarily suspended.
