The incidence of diseases and deaths due to air pollution is rapidly increasing in India. This warning has been given in the 'State of Global Air 2025' report. In 2023, approximately 2 million citizens in the country died due to diseases related to air pollution.
Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) around India Gate in Delhi has reached 325. This poses a health risk, which according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) falls into the very poor category. This very poor air quality can have harmful effects on health.
Delhi's AQI has surpassed 350, which falls into the severe category. After Diwali, Delhi's air has once again reached dangerous levels. In many areas, the air is so polluted that monitoring stations have recorded levels from very poor to hazardous.
