Senior Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has strongly targeted countries importing Russian oil. In an interview with Fox News, he directly warned countries like China, India, and Brazil, saying, "If you continue to buy oil from Russia at cheap rates, we will strike at your economy".
According to Graham, about 80 percent of Russia's total oil exports go to these three countries. "This trade indirectly supports Vladimir Putin's war efforts," he expressed. He clarified that there is a possibility of imposing import tariffs on these countries if the Trump administration returns to power. Graham further stated, "If India, China, and Brazil continue with the same policy, they could face significant economic repercussions. The savings they are making from cheap oil are stained with human blood."
A proposal to impose a 500% import duty is currently pending in the American Senate, targeting countries that purchase Russian oil. This indicates that Trump's administration is likely to take a more aggressive approach in wartime funding and foreign trade policy. Trump has given Putin a 50-day ultimatum to halt actions in Ukraine, after which strict economic sanctions will be imposed, according to the American administration's warning. Against this backdrop, countries like India may face new challenges in foreign policy.
