In a major boost to religious tourism and infrastructure, the Maharashtra government has approved a ₹288.71 crore development plan for the Bhimashankar pilgrimage site. The initiative is part of preparations for the Kumbh Mela scheduled to be held in Nashik in 2027.
The plan received final approval during a high-level committee meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. One of the key highlights of the project is the proposed construction of a helipad facility in the Bhimashankar area to improve connectivity and ease of access for devotees.
The comprehensive development project also includes the construction of a large parking facility capable of accommodating approximately 2,000 four-wheelers, 200 minibuses, and 5,000 two-wheelers. To enhance convenience for pilgrims, amenities such as waiting rooms, toilets, bathrooms, lockers, and shops will also be developed.
Additional features of the plan involve the redevelopment of the Bhimashankar bus stand, improvements in the temple vicinity, and the reconstruction of the Ram Mandir and Datta Mandir. Special electric vehicles will be made available for differently-abled visitors to ensure inclusive access.
The initiative further includes the construction of a new road through Rajgurunagar, restoration of the historic Shri Koteshwar Temple, development of trekking routes, and pedestrian-friendly footpaths to encourage eco-tourism.
According to officials, the project aims to provide a safe, comfortable, and spiritual experience to the increasing number of devotees visiting the shrine each year. While focusing on modern infrastructure, the plan is also committed to preserving the cultural and traditional heritage of Bhimashankar.
