The Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) in Noida has imposed a total fine of 50 lakh rupees on 21 sweet shops, restaurants, and food brands in the Noida and Greater Noida area for selling adulterated and substandard food. This strict action was taken as food samples were found not meeting quality standards. This decision was made after the court hearings of these long-pending cases were completed.

Food department officer Sarvesh Mishra stated that these cases are related to food samples taken during the period from 2021 to 2024. It was found in laboratory tests that cheese, sweets, spices, dairy products, snacks, and prepared foods did not meet the prescribed standards. Samples of paneer, khoya, gulab jamun, mustard oil, and refined oil from several establishments in Greater Noida failed. Subsequently, cases were filed in various places, which have been pending in court for the past five years.

According to the report, some shops and restaurants were fined up to 4.5 lakh rupees, while other establishments were fined between 3 to 3.6 lakh rupees, and small shops were fined between 25 thousand to 1 lakh rupees. Another official from the food department, Seva Mishra, stated that this action is ongoing throughout the district. Quality checks are conducted from time to time, and samples are sent to the laboratory. FIRs are filed at the police station for failed samples, a warning is given the first time, and the FSSAI license is canceled the second time. This action has created an atmosphere of fear among local traders, and the food department remains vigilant for the safety of consumers.
