The civil defence mock drills scheduled to take place on Thursday evening in the Pakistan-bordering states and union territories of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chandigarh have been postponed. Authorities have announced that a new date will be communicated soon.
These mock drills were part of Operation Shield, a large-scale civil defence preparedness initiative designed to simulate emergency response in regions vulnerable to cross-border threats. The exercises were planned to begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday and involve multiple districts across the aforementioned states and union territories.
The urgency for such preparedness has increased following a series of cross-border attacks that have occurred over the past four days, placing these areas on high alert.
However, according to official reports, the scheduled drills have now been deferred. Civil Defence Controllers and related departments have been instructed to halt all preparations and notify relevant personnel accordingly.
A government order stated: “All concerned officers and stakeholders are hereby informed that the Operation Shield Civil Defence Exercise has been postponed until further notice.” The rescheduled date for the drill will be announced in due course.
