Modi Speaks with Iranian President Amid Ongoing Iran-Israel Conflict

Modi's talks with Iranian President: Efforts to reduce tension

As the violent conflict between Iran and Israel enters its second week, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken diplomatic initiative to help ease rising tensions. In a telephonic conversation with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Prime Minister Modi expressed India’s deep concern over the escalating situation in the region.

The conversation comes at a time when ceasefire talks held in Geneva between Iran and European nations have failed to make any progress. Both Iran and Israel continue to launch retaliatory strikes against each other, prompting fears of a larger regional war.

Taking to social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi shared details of his conversation with President Pezeshkian. “Spoke to President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We had a detailed discussion on the current situation. Expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions. Reiterated our call for de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy as a path to restore regional peace, security, and stability at the earliest,” the Prime Minister posted.

The diplomatic outreach follows a significant military development: on Sunday morning, the United States launched airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—in a move aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities. In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched attacks on Israeli targets, further intensifying the already volatile situation.

With global powers weighing their responses and the international community calling for restraint, attention is now focused on how Iran and Israel will proceed. Prime Minister Modi’s call for peace underscores India’s position favoring diplomatic resolution and regional stability.
