As the intensity of the conflict in Gaza increases, a shocking issue has emerged. Different from the Israeli attacks, but equally deadly, is the problem facing the citizens of Gaza – the shortage of food and water. According to information recently released by the United Nations Human Rights Office, by July 7, 2025, approximately 798 Palestinian citizens have lost their lives while trying to obtain these essential items. This death toll has been primarily recorded at food distribution centers and on the routes of vehicles carrying aid.
These centers were operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which receives aid from the United States and Israel. Criticism is being raised that by using private security companies for assistance, the traditional aid system of the United Nations is being sidelined.
United Nations officials have warned that this method is not only insecure but also violates international standards of human neutrality. Organization spokespersons have clarified that 615 civilians died around the aid centers, while the remaining 183 were killed while on the aid convoy routes.
Meanwhile, GHF has stated that there is no direct connection to such incidents at their centers and claims that food distribution is being carried out smoothly.
