BJD and BRS to remain neutral

( Vice-Presidential Election ) Today is the election for the Vice-President. In this election, there is a direct contest between NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan and India Alliance candidate former Justice Sudarshan Reddy. A total of 782 MPs will vote in this election, including 543 from the Lok Sabha, 233 from the Rajya Sabha, and 12 nominated members. Additionally, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) from Odisha and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) from Telangana, two regional parties, have announced their independent stance. Both parties have decided to remain neutral by not participating in the voting process. Importantly, these parties have already distanced themselves from the national alliances of NDA and India (I.N.D.I.A.).

The BJD has made it clear that their focus is solely on the development of Odisha and the welfare of its people. The party has stated that they will neither align with the ruling coalition nor with the opposition coalition. Previously, the BJD had supported the central government on several occasions, but this time they have maintained a distance from both sides. After the defeat in the state assembly elections, the BJD is now on the opposition benches, and this decision is also being seen as a political strategy.

On the other hand, the BRS in Telangana has linked its decision of neutrality to the farmers' difficulties. The party's executive president K. T. Rama Rao stated that there is a severe shortage of urea in the state, and both the BJP and Congress have failed in this regard. To highlight the farmers' pain, the BRS has chosen to stay away from the election. According to them, if there was an option for 'NOTA', it would have been considered. It will be important to see whether the decisions of these two parties will have any impact on the outcome of the Vice Presidential election.
