While traveling by plane, passengers have to follow many rules, but the crew members have equally, if not more, strict rules. Air hostesses, pilots, and other crew members are completely prohibited from many things, from wearing perfume to smoking and chewing gum. It is mentioned in the airline guidelines that strict action is taken against them if these rules are violated.
Air hostesses are always ready to serve passengers, but they cannot wear any perfume. The strong fragrance may distract crew members, hence this prohibition. Additionally, products containing sanitizer, mouthwash, toothpaste, or alcohol cannot be used. Alcohol is flammable and its smell may have a negative impact, hence this restriction.
According to DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) regulations, crew members must consult a doctor before taking any medication prior to boarding the aircraft. It is ensured that the medication does not affect work while the aircraft is airborne. Especially pilots, air hostesses, and other crew members are completely prohibited from smoking or consuming tobacco on the aircraft. Chewing gum is also prohibited, and violations result in strict action.
These rules are to ensure safety and concentration, which keeps passengers' journeys safe. Airlines strictly adhere to these regulations.
