A nationwide Bharat Bandh has been called today, with over 25 crore employees across the country expected to participate in a massive strike. The bandh is likely to impact several essential services, causing widespread disruptions in both public and private sectors.

The strike has been organized by 10 central trade unions and their affiliated organizations in protest against what they describe as the government’s anti-worker, anti-farmer, and anti-national policies. Workers from multiple sectors — including banking, insurance, coal mining, postal services, highway construction, and state transport — are taking part in the agitation.

Support has also come from farmers' groups, including the United Kisan Morcha and the Agricultural Workers' Front, further amplifying the scale and potential impact of the bandh.

What Will Be Affected?

  • Banking services: Most public sector banks are expected to remain closed or operate with reduced staff. ATM services could also be affected in some regions.

  • Insurance companies: Operations in government-run insurance firms will likely be disrupted.

  • Postal services: Several post offices may shut operations for the day.

  • Coal mining: Mining and production activities are expected to be halted in many areas.

  • State transport services: Government-run buses may remain off the roads in certain states.

  • Highway and construction work: Projects under public sector undertakings and highway development may face delays.

  • Government factories and production units: Manufacturing in various public sector enterprises is expected to be affected.

What Will Continue to Function?

  • Private sector companies: Most private firms are expected to remain operational.

  • Hospitals and emergency services: Medical services, emergency care, and hospitals are expected to function normally.

  • Educational institutions: Most private schools, colleges, and online education platforms are likely to operate without disruption.
