Rohit Sharma and Harminpreet Kaur awarded Padma Shri : The central government has announced the prestigious Padma awards for the year 2026. This year, 131 distinguished individuals who have done remarkable work in various fields will be honored. It includes all three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. Individuals from the fields of art, sports, literature, cinema, and social service have been honored this year.
This announcement is special for the field of sports. Former captain of the Indian cricket team Rohit Sharma and women's team leader Harmanpreet Kaur will receive the Padma Shri award. Under Rohit's leadership, India achieved success in major international tournaments, while Harmanpreet gave new direction to women's cricket.
This year, five people will be awarded the Padma Vibhushan, thirteen people the Padma Bhushan, and 113 people the Padma Shri. Many athletes have also been honored from the sports field. Tennis player Vijay Amritraj will receive the Padma Bhushan, while players from hockey, wrestling, para-athletics, and traditional games have been announced for the Padma Shri. On January 26, during the Republic Day ceremony, these dignitaries will be presented with the awards. This is considered a token of honor for their contribution to the country.
