A tragic incident has come to light from Tajpuri village in Shirpur taluka of Dhule district, where a 20-year-old youth allegedly took his own life due to the fear that private photos from his mobile phone might have gone viral. The deceased has been identified as Bunty alias Kishan Jitendra Saner.
According to initial police reports, Kishan had unknowingly installed an APK file on his phone, which reportedly led to his WhatsApp account being hacked. Following the breach, Kishan suspected that certain objectionable photos stored on his mobile phone had been circulated in WhatsApp groups and shared with local mobile numbers. Under severe mental distress and panic, Kishan ended his life by hanging himself with the help of a saree.
Assistant Police Inspector Shatrughan Patil confirmed that the APK file found on the victim's mobile was suspicious in nature and that a detailed cyber investigation is currently underway. Kishan was the only son in his family, and his untimely death has plunged the entire village into mourning.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, highlighting the dark side of digital insecurity and psychological trauma caused by cyber exploitation.
In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, the police have appealed to the youth and general public to exercise extreme caution when downloading unknown files or apps on their mobile devices. Authorities are urging people to handle social media and messaging platforms responsibly and report any suspicious activity to the police without delay.
“This unfortunate case underscores the need for greater digital awareness. Young people must be educated about cyber threats and avoid downloading unverified applications. If something seems suspicious, reach out to the authorities immediately,” said Assistant Inspector Patil.
The tragedy has reignited concerns over rising cybercrime and the psychological vulnerability of youth in the digital age.
