Pune: Despite repeated extensions for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP), the expected response has not been received, prompting the transport department to take a strict stance. It has been decided to impose penalties on vehicles without HSRP from February 15. As a result, vehicle owners who have not yet installed the number plates may have to pay a hefty fine. Approximately 2.5 million vehicles are registered in Pune city and its vicinity. Of these, only 1.07 million vehicle owners have registered for HSRP, and plates have actually been installed on 862,000 vehicles. This means that about 1.5 million vehicles are still running on the roads without HSRP. This issue has become a concern for the transport department.

HSRP has been made mandatory to prevent vehicle theft, fake number plates, and crime. This plate contains a special code and hologram, making it easy to identify the vehicle. According to the guidelines of the central government, it is mandatory to install this plate. However, many vehicle owners have not yet responded to this process. Transport department officials have clarified that even those taking appointments after February 15 may face punitive action. Additionally, during road inspections, not only HSRP but also the vehicle's insurance, PUC (Pollution Under Control certificate), and driver's license will be thoroughly checked.

Vehicle owners are urged by the transport department to register for HSRP on the official website without further delay and get the plates installed. Otherwise, a hefty fine and vehicle seizure action may also occur. Meanwhile, due to sudden action, there is a rush among vehicle owners, and there is a possibility of increased crowding at official centers. Therefore, citizens are advised by the administration to complete the process immediately instead of waiting until the last moment.
