Mumbai is often blamed for pollution, but a fresh air report reveals a different reality. It appears that the air is worse in the suburbs and Navi Mumbai compared to the city center. In total, the air quality in 27 areas has reached concerning to hazardous levels.
The highest pollution was recorded in the Nerul area of Navi Mumbai. It has become difficult to find clean air in areas like the airport vicinity, Mahape, BKC, Ghatkopar, and Malad. As a result, the breath of suburban residents is more troubled.
Population growth, ongoing construction, metro and road works, factories, and heavy vehicle traffic are the main reasons behind the deteriorating air quality. Although there are solutions on paper, they don't seem to be very effective in practice.
If the air remains polluted like this, experts are expressing the possibility of an increase in asthma, respiratory diseases, and heart diseases. If immediate attention is not given to the suburbs along with the city, there is a fear that the breath of the Mumbai metropolis will be further suffocated.
