Belagavi: A disturbing incident has come to light from Advasiddheshwar Math in Shivapur, located in Mudalagi taluka of Belgaum district, Karnataka. Tensions erupted late at night on June 21 after locals found the monastery’s Swami, Advasiddharam, in a room with a woman. Enraged villagers stormed the Math, beat the Swami, and forcibly evicted him from the premises. Amid the chaos, serious allegations have emerged that some individuals in the crowd misbehaved with the woman and her minor daughter.
According to reports, the woman—who hails from Talikot in Bagalkot district—had come to the monastery with her daughter and decided to stay the night. Around 10 PM, some villagers reportedly saw the woman, her daughter, and Swami Advasiddharam together in the same room. This sparked suspicion and immediate outrage.
Within moments, a large mob gathered. Villagers barged into the monastery, confronted the Swami, and physically assaulted him, even striking his forehead. The situation escalated when a section of the crowd allegedly misbehaved with the woman and her minor daughter—with accusations of dragging and tearing the woman's clothes, leading to a tense and volatile atmosphere in the village.
Local police arrived at the scene swiftly after receiving an alert. They managed to control the situation and safely rescued the woman and her daughter, later shifting them to a counselling centre. The Swami was also removed from the premises and is currently reported to be staying in Gokak, also in Belgaum district.
A case has been registered and police have launched a thorough investigation into both the circumstances leading to the incident and the allegations of assault on the woman and her daughter. Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
