Indian Railways is preferred for affordable and comfortable travel. Many important steps are being taken by the railways considering the increasing number of passengers. The railway has now given a gift to senior citizens and women over 45 years of age. An automatic process has been started to automatically provide lower berths to senior citizens and women over 45 years of age traveling by train.

The winter session of Parliament is currently underway. In this session, the opposition is preparing to corner the government. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has now provided important information in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. The railway has established a specific quota for lower berths in different classes. There will be 6-7 lower berths in sleeper class, 4-5 lower berths in 3 AC, and 3-4 lower berths in 2 AC. The Railway Minister also stated that these berths will be reserved only for senior citizens, women over 45 years of age, and pregnant women.

The Railway Minister further stated that the new and upgraded coaches are being equipped with special features such as wide doors, wide berths and large compartments, space for wheelchairs, toilets with wide doors, and additional grab rails for support in toilets. Special provisions will also be made in Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat trains.

Consideration for the Disabled

These trains are designed keeping in mind the needs of the disabled. The first and last coaches of 'Vande Bharat' are equipped with wheelchair access, wide toilets, and easy mobility. Special reservations are available for disabled passengers and their companions in Mail/Express, Rajdhani, and Shatabdi trains. According to the rules, four berths (two lower and two middle) are reserved for Sleeper and 3AC/3E classes, and four berths are reserved for 2S/CC.
