Indian Railways Expansion Plan : Although the plan to increase the number of trains is until 2023, the railway capacity will gradually be increased over the next five years. Therefore, passengers will soon benefit from it, according to the Ministry of Railways. Previously approved and ongoing projects will be included in this plan.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that considering the increasing number of passengers, the government is expanding railway terminals. This will reduce congestion and improve railway services. The government's effort is to make the country's railway system more modern and robust.
The following works will be undertaken to double the capacity of the railway by 2023 –
Increasing new platforms and other facilities at existing stations
Establishing new terminals in and near cities
Creating large facilities for train maintenance
Improving signaling systems and laying new railway tracks
While increasing the capacity of railway stations, nearby stations will also be considered. For example, along with Pune station, there is a plan to enhance facilities at Hadapsar, Khadki, and Alandi, as clarified by the ministry.
