In a significant move to facilitate the travel of thousands of Warkaris heading to Pandharpur for the Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage, Central Railway has announced the operation of 80 special trains. This decision aims to ensure a smoother and more comfortable journey for devotees traveling from various regions including Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Karnataka.
Ashadhi Ekadashi, a major spiritual event in Maharashtra, witnesses the annual congregation of lakhs of Warkaris who walk hundreds of kilometers in devotion to Lord Vitthal. To support their pilgrimage, the government and various departments prepare extensive arrangements every year.
This year, Central Railway will operate these special trains from July 1 to July 10, with services originating from major stations such as Pune, Nagpur, Amravati, Kalaburagi, and Bhusawal. Additional trains will also cater to devotees traveling from Karnataka.
Alongside the railway arrangements, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has also increased its fleet of buses for the Warkaris. Additionally, the state government has announced toll waivers for vehicles heading to Pandharpur, further easing travel for pilgrims.
The coordinated efforts by various departments are expected to significantly reduce travel hassles, helping devotees focus on their spiritual journey.
Reservations for the Ashadhi Special Trains commenced on June 16. Tickets are available at all computerized railway reservation centers as well as on the IRCTC website. The Central Railway administration has advised pilgrims to book their seats at the earliest due to high demand.
These trains are equipped to offer convenient and comfortable travel facilities to ensure a pleasant experience for the devotees on this sacred journey.
To prevent any untoward incidents during the massive gathering, the administration has taken extra precautions this year. Notably, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology will be deployed to manage crowd control and enhance overall safety at Pandharpur.
Authorities have emphasized that every effort is being made to ensure that the spiritual and cultural significance of the festival remains undisturbed and that devotees can carry out their pilgrimage peacefully.
