In a dramatic turn of events, the main suspect in one of the biggest robberies in the city’s history has been killed in a police encounter. Amol Khotkar, believed to be the mastermind behind the multi-crore heist at the bungalow of businessman Santosh Ladda, was shot dead by police during a sting operation in Vadgaon Kolhati. The encounter has sent shockwaves through the criminal underworld and brought a thrilling conclusion to the robbery case that had gripped the city for weeks.

The sensational robbery occurred in the early hours of May 15, when property worth ₹6 crore, including gold, silver, and cash, was looted at gunpoint from Ladda’s bungalow. At the time of the crime, Santosh Ladda and his family were in the United States, having left on May 7. In their absence, the house was being overseen by Sanjay Jhalke, a trusted employee who had worked with the family for 19 years.

According to police, six robbers executed the crime in a meticulously planned operation, taking advantage of the family's absence. The case was jointly investigated by the MIDC Waluj Police and the Crime Branch, who formed nine special teams that conducted an intense, 10-day operation involving technical surveillance and intelligence gathering. Upon receiving a tip-off that Khotkar was hiding in the Vadgaon Kolhati area, police set a trap. However, when officers attempted to apprehend him, Khotkar allegedly tried to run over the police with a car and then opened fire. In the retaliatory action, he was fatally shot, police sources confirmed.

The encounter has reignited debate around police action, but many locals have praised the swift and decisive response. Residents have expressed relief and admiration for the efforts of law enforcement, noting that the police's firm action has sent a clear message to the criminal community. Further investigation is ongoing, as authorities continue to pursue the remaining suspects and uncover the full extent of the criminal network involved in the robbery. Police officials have stated they are committed to "getting to the root of the crime.
