According to the Central Meteorological Department, it is predicted that the cold will intensify in some parts of the state in the next 24 hours. However, even though there is a slight increase in minimum temperature in some areas, the chill will remain. The cold will mainly persist in North Maharashtra, and in Konkan, the chill will remain at night and early morning. The cold is expected to increase in Marathwada and Vidarbha in the coming days, affecting daily life, indicating that the state will experience more severe cold in the next three to four days. The cold winds coming from the sea are causing a shiver in the coastal areas.

A blanket of fog on the hilltop...

Due to the dense fog, winding paths, and the hilltop location, visibility is currently affected. This fog persists until the day progresses, keeping the chill intact. Meanwhile, Dhule in the state recorded the lowest temperature in the last 24 hours at 5.3 degrees Celsius. In Pune, too, the chill has noticeably increased. Although the cold wave-like situation in Dhule is expected to reduce somewhat, the chill is not likely to ease soon. The increasing impact of this cold in the state is also affecting agriculture, orchards, and flower farming. The cold's effect is also visible on the fishing industry.

The air quality in Mumbai has deteriorated...

Here, in Mumbai city and suburbs including Thane and Palghar, the temperature is dropping in the evening and remains so until dawn. Meanwhile, a chill is also felt in the winds blowing over the creek and coastal areas. However, since the atmosphere in Mumbai city is currently hazy, the question arises whether this is fog or smog.

The air quality in Mumbai has been consistently deteriorating over the past few days, and on Wednesday, the air index in most parts of the city was in the 'moderate' category. However, in Ghatkopar and Chembur, the same index was in the 'poor' category, raising concerns. A few days ago, there was some improvement in the air quality in the city, but it was observed that in some parts of Mumbai, the air returned to the 'poor' category from Sunday.

Cold wave to intensify in North India...

Snowfall is occurring in the northernmost mountain ranges of North India, and some mountain areas are witnessing rain. These changes are due to the newly active western disturbances, and there is an increase in minimum temperatures in the northern plains as well. However, by the end of this week, another cold wave is set to chill North India, with heavy snowfall predicted in the valleys of Himachal and Kashmir. If there are no changes in wind direction and weather systems, the cold wave is expected to intensify over the next three to four days, affecting the entire country.
