The heavy rainfall in Satara district has continued for the past two days. As a result, the dams on the mountain tops have started filling rapidly, and the Koyna, Krishna, Venna, and Urmodi rivers are overflowing. Consequently, more than 350 citizens from Satara, Patan, Mahabaleshwar, and Wai talukas have been relocated to safe places.

The Koyna Dam is filled to more than one hundred percent capacity, and all gates have been opened, releasing a large volume of water. Nearly one lakh cusecs of water is being discharged from the dam. Due to the significant release of water from the Kanhere, Urmodi, Dhom, and Veer dams, many areas along the riverbanks are in a dangerous situation. Some bridges and embankments have gone underwater.

Some villages in the Patan taluka have become completely submerged, and more than two hundred citizens have been relocated. Traffic has been halted on the Karad–Chiplun route. Water has entered the Krishnamai Temple area in the Preetisangam area of Karad. If the intensity of the rain continues for the next 24 hours, the administration has expressed the possibility of a flood threat to the Karad and Sangli areas, along with Satara.

A special alert has been issued for the villages along the Krishna River in Sangli district. The Satara and Sangli district administrations are prepared with disaster management teams and have urged citizens not to go near the riverbank.
