All electricity workers' organizations across Maharashtra have announced a statewide strike on May 20, protesting against the privatization of the power sector and pressing for long-pending demands. The strike is expected to impact power distribution and operations across the state as workers rally in solidarity.
Krishna Bhoyar, General Secretary of the Maharashtra State Electricity Workers Federation, stated that despite repeated appeals and consistent follow-ups with the government, their concerns have not received adequate attention. He criticized the administration for its lack of responsiveness to the issues raised by electricity workers.
The key demands include opposition to parallel power distribution licenses, halting the privatization of 329 power substations, and the implementation of pensions for all electricity employees. Bhoyar added that the workers have now adopted a more aggressive stance as their grievances continue to be overlooked.
The strike underscores growing unrest in the power sector over proposed policy changes, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation amid concerns of potential disruptions to electricity supply.
