There is great curiosity and anticipation among central employees and pensioners regarding the 8th Pay Commission. Against this backdrop, the government has provided important information in the Rajya Sabha. The central government has clarified that the official establishment of the 8th Pay Commission has been done and its work is underway. The notification regarding this was published on November 3, 2025.

While answering a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated that the commission will conduct an in-depth review of the pay structure, allowances, service conditions, and pension terms of employees and retirees. The commission has been given a period of 18 months to submit its recommendations. Therefore, the final report of the commission is likely to be submitted to the government in 2027. This means that central employees will not receive an immediate decision regarding pay raises or improvements in allowances. The government will make a final decision only after the commission's recommendations are received. Therefore, there may be some waiting time for actual implementation.

Meanwhile, some members of the Rajya Sabha raised questions about how much additional burden would be placed on the government's treasury if the recommendations of this commission are implemented. The government has currently refused to express any estimate regarding the financial impact due to salaries, allowances, pensions, and other benefits. The government states that only after the commission's report and recommendations are presented can the financial burden be estimated. Overall, although the 8th Pay Commission is operational, central employees and pensioners may have to wait until 2027 for actual benefits. Therefore, everyone's attention is focused on the commission's work and the government's decisions over the next two years.
