In the upcoming 2026, there is good news for the general public. From January 1, 2026, the prices of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and PNG (Pipeline Gas) in the country will be reduced. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has provided this information. PNGRB member, A. K. Tiwari, mentioned in an interview that these new prices will save 2 to 3 rupees per unit. This will directly benefit the common people.
New Tariff Structure
PNGRB has announced a new "Unified Tariff Structure." This structure will simplify the gas distribution system across the country. Previously there were three zones, but now they have been made into two zones, making the tariff system much simpler.
Previously, the price was 42 rupees for a distance of up to 200 kilometers, 80 rupees for 300 to 1200 kilometers, and 107 rupees for distances over 1200 kilometers. But now changes have been made. Tiwari said, “Now there will be two zones instead of three. The first zone will apply to CNG and PNG customers across the country. The new tariff for this zone will be 54 rupees, which is less than the previous 80 rupees and 107 rupees.”
Expansion of Gas Infrastructure
Tiwari also discussed the expansion of gas infrastructure. He said, “Licenses are being granted to public and private sector companies to promote the availability of CNG and PNG across the country. PNGRB is coordinating with state governments, which is initiating the process of reducing VAT in various states. This will increase the use of CNG and PNG.”
Tiwari says, “We are not just a regulatory body, but we are also a facilitator.” This step by the government is likely to reduce the prices of CNG and PNG and increase the flow of natural gas usage across the country. The CGD (Compressed Natural Gas) sector will be crucial for the growth of natural gas usage in India.
In summary, from 2026, the prices of CNG and PNG will decrease, directly benefiting the general public. The government has focused on expanding gas infrastructure, and its effects will certainly be seen in gas usage across the country.
