A serious road accident involving the vehicle of prominent farmer leader Ravikant Tupkar occurred around 12:30 a.m. at the Pargaon toll plaza in Vashi taluka, Dharashiv district. Tupkar was en route from Latur to Jalna as part of his ongoing state-wide protest demanding loan waivers for farmers.
According to preliminary reports, a speeding truck rammed into Tupkar’s car from behind. It is suspected that the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Despite the severity of the collision, Tupkar and his family escaped unhurt.
Two passengers in the vehicle — PA Kartik Savadatkar and Rajaram Jadhav — sustained minor injuries. The car's driver, Ajay Malge, and Tupkar’s colleague, Gajanan Naikwade, were unharmed.
Police officials have taken the truck driver into custody for further questioning. Initial investigations suggest that the driver was intoxicated and attempted to conceal information about the incident. The truck, which was carrying a load of sugar, has been seized by the authorities.
Fortunately, the accident did not result in any serious injuries, but it has once again raised concerns about road safety and the dangers posed by intoxicated driving.
