Gold, a long-cherished investment and adornment—especially among Indian women—has seen a sharp rise in prices in recent weeks, pushing it beyond the reach of many buyers. Currently priced at around ₹81,000 per tola, the soaring rates have derailed purchase plans for numerous households.

However, there may be relief in sight for gold buyers. According to international market projections, gold prices could fall significantly, with some forecasts suggesting a possible drop to around ₹55,000 per tola in India.

Global Trends Suggest a Steep Fall

A key trigger for this optimism comes from American investment firm Morningstar, whose analysts have predicted a 38% drop in global gold prices in the near future. According to their assessment, gold could fall from $3,080 per ounce to $1,820 per ounce, driven by increased global gold income and a 9% rise in gold reserves.

If this prediction holds true, the domestic gold rate in India could drop to between ₹55,000 and ₹56,000 per tola, a major dip from current levels.

Cautious Optimism in Indian Markets

Despite these global forecasts, many Indian market experts remain skeptical about such a dramatic fall. They argue that domestic factors, demand during wedding and festive seasons, and geopolitical tensions continue to support high prices.

Over the past few weeks, the steep increase in gold prices has caused concern among consumers, especially during the festival season when gold buying typically peaks. Many have postponed or canceled their gold purchases, waiting for a more favorable price point.

If the projected price drop materializes, it would bring major relief to buyers and investors alike. A fall in prices to the ₹55,000–₹56,000 range could reinvigorate the gold market, spurring purchases that were previously on hold.

As the global market remains volatile, all eyes will be on price movements in the coming weeks. For those waiting to buy gold, the message is clear—stay patient, as better days may be on the horizon.
