On one side, the alliance of the Thackeray brothers has been announced, while on the other side, the BJP-Shiv Sena grand alliance is also gearing up strongly. Amidst this, an important move from MNS has come to light, and discussions have begun in political circles that Raj Thackeray's first candidate for the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is almost finalized.
According to the information received, discussions have taken place regarding the candidate from MNS for ward number 192 of Mumbai Municipal Corporation in Dadar. After this discussion, it is being speculated that MNS leader Yashwant Killedar might contest the election from this ward. Therefore, there is growing curiosity about who will get the first candidacy from Raj Thackeray's party in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Notably, in the 2017 municipal elections, Preeti Patankar from the Thackeray group won from this very ward.
Meanwhile, there is a growing discontent within the Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena over the allocation of ward number 192. It is known that in the alliance discussions, ward 192 has been given to MNS and ward 194 to the Thackeray faction. However, the workers of the Thackeray Sena are demanding that ward 192 should be given to them. It is understood that for this demand, Shiv Sainiks will meet Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree at 4 PM today. Former corporator Prakash Patankar will also meet Uddhav Thackeray along with the Shiv Sainiks.
Meanwhile, elections for a total of 29 municipal corporations in the state, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, known as the richest municipal corporation in Asia, will be held. Voting for the 227 wards of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation will take place on January 15, 2026, and the results will be announced on January 16. The term of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation ended on March 7, 2022, and since then an administrator has been appointed to the corporation. In the previous election held in 2017, Kishori Pednekar was the mayor.
Mumbai Municipal Corporation Election 2026: Possible Schedule
The possible schedule for the Mumbai Municipal Corporation election has also emerged. Accordingly, nominations will be filed between December 23 and 30, 2025. Scrutiny on December 31, the last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 2, 2026, the final list of candidates and symbol allocation on January 3, voting on January 15, and counting and results will be announced on January 16.
