Heavy Rainfall in Marathwada Claims 104 Lives

Due to the heavy rainfall ongoing for the past fifteen days in Marathwada, there has been immense damage in 3050 villages across Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded, Dharashiv, Hingoli, Latur, and Beed districts. According to the report from the Divisional Commissioner's office, the region comprising Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Nanded, Dharashiv, Hingoli, Latur, and Beed districts has been affected by the heavy rainfall, resulting in damage to crops and farmers.

Out of the 104 deaths that occurred in Marathwada between June 1 and September 29, seven people have died in the floods since September 26. A total of 2838 animals have died since June 1, including 685 animals in Beed, according to the report. In Nanded, 28 people have died, followed by 17 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 16 in Beed, 13 in Hingoli, nine each in Jalna and Dharashiv, and six each in Parbhani and Latur, the report states.

In the recent floods, 2701 kilometers of roads, 1504 bridges, 222 water tanks, 1064 schools, 9567 electricity poles, 58 buildings of local government offices, 392 water supply schemes, and 352 primary health centers have been partially or completely damaged, it states. The related report also mentions that the repair will cost 2432.53 crore rupees.

Lists of affected farmers will be uploaded, and farmers will have to complete e-KYC, and the aid will be deposited into their bank accounts, said Divisional Commissioner Jitendra Papalkar to PTI. The flood in the region is receding, but vigilance is being maintained for people living in the low-lying areas along the Godavari river, Papalkar said.
