An incident has come to light where Mayuri Gaurav Thosar (age 23), a newlywed residing in Sundarmoti Nagar area of Jalgaon city, committed suicide. It is alleged by her family that Mayuri, who got married just four months ago, hanged herself due to harassment from her in-laws. Originally from Padali village in Buldhana district, Mayuri was married to Gaurav Thosar on May 10.
However, the family claims that just a few days after the wedding, she began to experience mental and physical abuse from her in-laws, along with demands for money. Mayuri's birthday was celebrated on September 9. But the very next day, on September 10, she committed suicide by hanging herself when no one was at home in the afternoon. She was immediately taken to the district hospital, but the doctors declared her dead. This incident has deeply shaken Jalgaon. In this context, social activist Trupti Desai has given her reaction to Lokshahi Marathi.
At that time, she said, "Actually, this is a major incident. If we look at the statistics, two months ago there was the case of Vaishnavi's harassment, and in rural areas, such cases are common. After a girl's marriage, is there anything received from her maternal family by the in-laws? They are looked upon as the ones who give. Even after the ritual of 'Kanyadaan', demands are made from the maternal side. In such situations, girls take extreme steps.
She further said, "There are many such beloved sisters. We see that cases of suicide or incitement to suicide are increasing. Therefore, I feel that these accused should be arrested immediately. The government's beloved sister scheme and many such schemes are with the government. But how many such beloved sisters are we waiting to lose? If you have seen the dowry death law before, there was immediate arrest or those things. Later, there has been some change in that law."
