The AC local train service started on the Harbour Line of Mumbai's suburban railway network has received tremendous response from passengers. Due to this service by Central Railway (CR), a total of 640,017 passengers have used this AC local service in 16 days, according to railway officials. During this period, an average of 40,017 passengers are traveling in these AC buses daily. This AC local service was started on January 26, 2026, and was highly favored by passengers in the first 16 days until February 10, 2026.

Significant Revenue from AC Local Ticket Sales

In these 16 days, Central Railway has earned 23.8 million rupees through AC local ticket sales. On average, the railway has received about 1.49 million rupees per day. From this total income, 17.9 million rupees came from season tickets and 5.9 million rupees from single journey tickets. According to railway officials, this enthusiastic response from passengers indicates that many commuters prefer traveling in AC locals over traditional non-AC first and second class, as they enjoy a comfortable journey away from heat and crowd.

Ticket Inspection and Action Against Unauthorized Travel

The Mumbai division of Central Railway has conducted a special ticket inspection campaign at stations and on AC local services, aimed at taking action against those traveling without tickets and providing a completely secure environment for the comfort of other passengers.

In these 16 days alone, 810 passengers were found traveling without tickets on the Harbour Line AC local, and the railway has collected a fine of 2.50 lakh rupees from them.

Not only that, but in the financial year 2025-26 (up to February 10, 2026), the Central Railway division has recorded more than 101,000 instances of ticketless travel in AC locals (Main Line and Harbour Line) and has collected 3.22 crore rupees as fines from them.
