A tragic incident occurred on Monday morning in the Bageshwar Dham area of Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, where a wall of a private dhaba collapsed due to heavy rains. One person lost his life, and at least 10 devotees sustained injuries, two of them critically. The injured were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to Health Department official Dr. R.P. Gupta, the incident took place at ‘Sharma Dhaba’, where several devotees had taken shelter from the rain. Suddenly, the wall gave way and collapsed, trapping people beneath the debris. Emergency services, including ambulances and rescue teams, arrived swiftly at the scene. The injured were pulled out from the rubble and rushed to the hospital, where a team of doctors began immediate treatment. Some patients suffered minor injuries, while the condition of two is reported to be serious. If needed, they will be shifted to more advanced medical facilities.
Dr. Gupta stated, “Due to the intensity of the rainfall, the wall of the dhaba collapsed without warning. One person has unfortunately died in the incident, while 10 others have been injured, two of them seriously. All are receiving medical care, and we’re monitoring the situation closely.”
This is not the first such incident in the Bageshwar Dham area. On July 3, a similar accident occurred when a temporary tent collapsed during heavy rainfall. A person sleeping under the tent suffered serious injuries and later died after an iron rod fell on him. At the time, Bageshwar Dham head Dhirendra Shastri clarified that the tent had been pitched at an old location and was not part of the official event area. Some people had taken shelter there due to the rain, leading to the unfortunate mishap.
The repeated incidents have raised concerns about safety infrastructure in and around the Bageshwar Dham premises, which sees a large influx of devotees on a daily basis. Local authorities have been urged to ensure preventive measures are put in place to avoid such tragedies in the future.
