Former ISRO chief Dr. K. Kasturirangan passed away at 10.43 am today at his residence in Bengaluru. Dr. K. Kasturirangan was born on 24 October 1940. Former ISRO chief Dr. K. Kasturirangan led the Indian space programme for over 9 years as Chairman and Secretary in ISRO.
Dr. Kasturirangan also received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Physics from the University of Mumbai. He also received his Masters in Experimental High Energy Astronomy from the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad in 1971. He breathed his last today at his residence and his body will be kept at RRI on April 27 from 10 am to 12 noon.

Dr. K. Kasturirangan was a renowned Indian astronomer. He also made significant contributions to India's space programme, including the successful launches of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). Dr. K. Kasturirangan was a member of the Planning Commission, President of the Indian Academy of Sciences and General Secretary of the Indian Science Congress.
He has also been a member of various international committees and organizations including the International Astronomical Union, the International Academy of Astronomy. Dr. K. Kasturirangan has been honored with prestigious awards like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Not only this, he has also been honored by various scientific academies and organizations including the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Indian National Science Academy and the Third World Academy of Sciences.
