The railway administration has made a major decision at the beginning of the new year for the millions of passengers who travel daily by the local train, known as the lifeline of Mumbai. With the aim of making digital services more accessible and integrated, the railway has launched a new official mobile app called 'Rail One', and as a result, the widely used UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app has been permanently discontinued. The facilities on the UTS app, especially used for issuing monthly passes, will no longer be available.
According to the information provided by the Ministry of Railways, monthly, quarterly, and half-yearly passes for suburban railways including Mumbai local will now be available only through the Rail One app. Until now, passengers had to use different apps for ticket booking, pass renewal, and train information. To reduce this complexity and to promote the concept of ‘One Nation, One App’, the railway administration has developed the comprehensive Rail One app.
This new app not only provides the facility to issue passes or tickets, but also offers live train status, platform numbers, travel-related notifications, and many other digital services all in one place. As a result, passengers will no longer need to switch between different apps.
UTS App Completely Closed
The railway administration has clarified that now new passes cannot be issued or old passes renewed through the UTS app. However, passengers who have already obtained passes through the UTS app can use their passes until the validity period. After the pass expires, registration on the Rail One app will be mandatory for a new pass. This app has been made available on both Android and iOS platforms.
High-Speed Payment Gateway and R-Wallet
To make digital transactions more secure and faster, payment options like UPI, net banking, debit-credit cards have been provided in the Rail One app. Additionally, the app also offers the R-Wallet feature, which will help avoid instances of money getting stuck due to technical issues. The railway administration claims that using the high-speed payment gateway will make ticket and pass booking faster even during peak hours.
This change will help reduce the long queues in front of ticket counters at railway stations, saving both time and effort for passengers. Central and Western Railways have urged passengers to use the Rail One app as much as possible.
