The lottery process for the reservation of mayoral positions for 29 municipal corporations in the state, including Mumbai, was conducted today at the ministry. This lottery was conducted under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, and reservations have been determined for various corporations in categories such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and Open. Everyone was focused on this lottery, especially the great curiosity about which category would be assigned for the mayoral position of Mumbai, the richest municipal corporation in the country.
Finally, it has been clarified that the Mumbai mayoral position is reserved for the Open Category, and this position has been reserved for women. This means that a woman from the open category will have the opportunity to become the mayor of Mumbai. This decision is said to have cleared the way for the BJP in the grand alliance to secure the mayoral position, according to political circles.
However, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena has raised an objection to this reservation lottery process. The Thackeray group expected the Mumbai mayoral position to go to the OBC category. Due to this objection being raised during the lottery process, there was a brief period of confusion in the ministry. Nevertheless, the lottery was completed according to the official process, and the reservation for the open women's category for Mumbai remained in place.
The Mumbai Municipal Corporation is the administrative body of the country's financial capital, and its budget is as large as that of many states. Therefore, the entire country was focused on the results of the Mumbai municipal elections. The results were announced last week, and the BJP has won the most seats with 89 corporators in the 227-member assembly. The BJP and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena contested the election as a grand alliance. With 29 corporators from the Shinde faction being elected, the total strength of the grand alliance has reached 118.
Due to this numerical strength, it is considered certain that the grand alliance will have power in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, and it is clear that the mayor's position will also go to them. Now, everyone is focused on which party and which name will be chosen for the open women's category. After the reservation was announced, internal party movements have gained momentum, and in the next few days, the face of Mumbai's mayor is likely to become clear.
