The election schedule for the mayoral post has been announced, and nomination papers can be filed on February 7. The name of the new mayor will be finalized on February 11. On the same day, a special meeting will be called at 12 noon, and nominations can be withdrawn up to just 15 minutes before the meeting starts.

Meanwhile, reservations for the mayoral posts of all 29 municipal corporations in the state have been determined. In Mumbai, this post has been kept open for the general category, while in Thane, reservations have been applied for the Scheduled Castes.

After the 2026 election results, new equations have formed in Mumbai's politics. In the 227-member assembly, BJP is leading with the most seats. The Thackeray faction's Shiv Sena is in second place, while other parties have limited representation. It is speculated that the increased number of non-Marathi councilors may impact upcoming decisions.
