The RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has made an important statement about Hinduism, population, and social unity. “Muslims living in Hindustan are also Hindus. They have not come from any Arab countries. They need to return home,” he said at an event. His statement has sparked discussions in political and social circles.
In his speech, Bhagwat highlighted the history of Indian culture, stating that Hindustan was ruled by the Mughals for 500 years and the British for 200 years. However, even during this long period, Hinduism and culture could not be destroyed. “The foundation of Hinduism is extremely strong. So now, who can spoil it?” he questioned.
Referring to the concept of 'Ghar Wapsi', he mentioned that the original cultural tradition of all communities in India is the same. Therefore, there is a need to focus on unity rather than creating divisions in society. This statement is being interpreted in various ways by different political parties and social organizations.
Commenting on the population issue, Bhagwat said that the current population growth rate in the country is 2.1. It should be at least 3. He appealed, “Every Hindu couple should have at least three children.” He also noted that young men and women entering marriage should be encouraged to have at least three children.
This statement is likely to elicit reactions at the political level. Some have said that this statement is important from the perspective of cultural unity, while others have questioned the call for population growth.
Meanwhile, according to the ideology of the organization, Bhagwat clarified that India's identity is based on cultural nationalism. Although there are various religions, languages, and traditions in India, he claimed that the cultural root behind them is the same. Due to Bhagwat's speech, there are signs that social and political discussions will gain momentum in the coming times. The nation is focused on the consequences of his statement and the reactions it will evoke.
