According to the complaint filed with Bhandara police, the woman, who was married just a month ago, began facing pressure from her in-laws for a dowry of ₹5 lakh. The harassment reportedly began shortly after the wedding when discrepancies in the groom’s background came to light.
Before the marriage, the bride’s family was told that the groom had a stable income of ₹7–10 lakh annually. However, after the wedding, it was discovered that the husband was unemployed, financially dependent on his parents, and allegedly addicted to drugs. When the bride and her family questioned this deceit, the in-laws reportedly began harassing her, demanding additional dowry.
Shockingly, the complaint also states that the woman's in-laws threatened her and her family, falsely claiming she had links with Maoist groups. The victim and her relatives allege that the in-laws warned them that if the dowry demand was not met, they would not be held responsible for the woman’s health or safety.
A case has been officially registered, and Bhandara police have begun an investigation into the matter. Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the evidence gathered.
