The preparation for the upcoming 2026-27 Union Budget is in its final stages, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an important meeting with renowned economists and experts from NITI Aayog in this regard. In this meeting, which lasted about three hours, there was an in-depth discussion on the agenda of 'Self-reliance and Structural Transformation' for a developed India.

While speaking on this occasion, Prime Minister Modi stated that the dream of a developed India by 2047 is not limited to government policies alone, but is also clearly visible in the changing expectations of society, the education system, and global dynamics. He emphasized the need to enhance institutional capacity and active infrastructure planning to meet the needs of an increasingly ambitious society.

During the meeting, emphasizing the need for mission-based reforms, the Prime Minister called for special attention to global capacity building and international integration. He clarified that it is necessary to implement concrete and goal-oriented reforms in various sectors to sustain long-term economic growth. He also noted that policies should be formulated with the aim of making India a hub for the global workforce and international markets.

In this discussion, participating economists presented important suggestions to increase productivity and competitiveness in the production and service sectors. Emphasis was placed on increasing domestic savings, building strong infrastructure, and accelerating structural transformation through cutting-edge technology. Additionally, there was a detailed discussion on how artificial intelligence (AI) can play a significant role in the expansion of India's digital public infrastructure.

Present at this meeting were many senior economists including Shankar Acharya, Ashok K. Bhattacharya, and N.R. Bhanumurthy. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is working with senior ministry officials to finalize the budget, which is expected to be a significant step towards 'Developed India 2047' when presented in the upcoming parliamentary session.
