After the accidental death of Ajit Pawar, movements have gained momentum for the by-election in the Baramati Assembly Constituency in Pune district. Ajit Pawar passed away in a plane crash on January 28. Due to his demise, the Baramati Assembly Constituency seat has become vacant, and against this backdrop, the Election Commission has started preparations for the by-election process.

To conduct the by-election in a transparent, accurate, and regulated manner, the Election Commission has announced a special brief voter list revision program. This program will be implemented under Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. According to the commission's information, only voters whose names are registered in the voter list by January 1, 2026, will be eligible to vote in this by-election.

According to this special program, the consolidated draft voter list will be published on Monday, February 9, 2026. Subsequently, claims and objections from voters will be accepted from February 9 to February 25, 2026. Citizens are provided with this opportunity for name exclusion, inclusion of new names, address correction, or other complaints.

All received claims and objections will be thoroughly scrutinized and resolved by March 6, 2026. After the entire process is completed, the final voter list will be published on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Based on this final list, the official announcement for the by-election in the Baramati Assembly constituency will be made.

Meanwhile, to ensure effective implementation of this process, and to maintain transparency in the list of polling stations, voter population, and other administrative matters, meetings will be organized with recognized political parties at the level of Pune District Collector and District Election Officer as well as Baramati Voter Registration Officer. In this meeting, political parties will be informed about the entire program and necessary instructions and feedback will be taken.
