Once hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has made a startling confession about the reasons behind the decline in his career. In a candid interview, Shaw admitted that bad decisions, wrong company, and reduced dedication to cricket led to his downfall. Shaw, who made a dream Test debut for India in 2018 by scoring a century, is currently struggling to find his place in the national setup. Despite his talent, he remained unsold in the 2024 IPL auction, raising many eyebrows. Now, he has taken accountability for his career slump.
“There are many reasons for my decline. But the biggest reason is me. I have taken many wrong decisions in life,” Shaw confessed during the interview. Elaborating on his mistakes, he said, “I gave very little time to cricket and surrounded myself with the wrong people. Instead of practicing for 8 hours, I reduced it to just 4. I disconnected myself from senior cricketers. During my tough times, none of them reached out—except Rishabh Pant, who called and spoke to me.” Reflecting on the early highs of his career and the sudden downturn, Shaw said, “When you’re successful, many people come close. I made friends who didn’t help my game. They started taking me to places I never wanted to go. That’s when everything began to fall apart.”
However, he found guidance and support from the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
“Sachin sir explained things to me. He wanted me and Arjun (Tendulkar) to grow together. I’ve visited his house several times, and he always supported me. But then, I lost my grandfather, and that affected me mentally again,” Shaw added.
As Prithvi Shaw opens up about his struggles, regrets, and realizations, the cricketing world now watches closely—hoping for a redemption arc and a strong comeback from the young batsman.
