Advocate Gunratna Sadavarte launched a scathing attack on Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, accusing the Thackeray brothers of indulging in what he called “anti-education politics” and labeling their actions as a “sham”.
Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the Maharashtra Assembly's monsoon session, Sadavarte criticized the political drama unfolding around the state government's recent decision to cancel the controversial Government Resolution (GR) mandating compulsory Hindi education in schools.
“The platform created to block education for ordinary children has now become a stage for political manipulation,” said Sadavarte.“When two individuals become masterminds in derailing education for political gains, and then organize victory rallies to celebrate it — that is not a ‘victory rally’; it’s a riot against education. The Thackeray brothers have committed an educational crime. Just as I once said the Constitution was in danger during the Lok Sabha elections, I now say that our language is in danger,” he added.
Sadavarte referred to the government's decision to revoke the GR as “a key move executed with simplicity,” but didn’t shy away from alleging that the Thackerays were misusing language politics for electoral mileage.
The Mahayuti government had recently announced the cancellation of the Hindi-mandatory GR, triggering strong reactions from various political quarters. The opposition, led by Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS, boycotted the traditional tea meeting organized by the state government ahead of the assembly session. Sadavarte’s press conference added another layer of tension to the already heated political environment.
