Relieved from IAS chief position, now Maharashtra's responsibility, will Sadanand Date become DGP?

There is talk that Sadanand Date's name is currently leading for the position of Maharashtra's next Director General of Police. The central government has relieved him from the position of NIA chief, and the state government has sent their appointment proposal to the center.

Current DGP Rashmi Shukla will retire on December 31, 2025. The state home department has sent the names of seven senior IPS officers to UPSC for appointment in her place. Date's name is considered important in this. After UPSC prepares a list of three officers, the final DGP will be decided. If Date is selected, he will take charge on December 31. His tenure will be until December 2026.

Sadanand Date is a 1990 batch IPS officer born in Pune. He is known for strict discipline, honesty, and firm decisions. He has handled many responsibilities such as economic crimes, cyber department, railway police, Navi Mumbai SP, Mira-Bhayander Commissioner, ATS chief. During the 26/11 Mumbai attack, he bravely faced the terrorists. Even though he was seriously injured at that time, he fulfilled his duty.

As the head of NIA, he has also investigated many serious terrorist cases. Due to his experience and performance, his name is strongly considered for the next DGP of Maharashtra. Now, everyone is focused on the final decision.
