The incident took place at around 5:00 AM, when highway security personnel patrolling the stretch discovered the carcass of the leopard lying on the road. Authorities were immediately alerted, and a team from the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Forest Department rushed to the scene.
The leopard’s body was later shifted to the Forest Department nursery in Kumbhphal Shivara for a post-mortem examination, officials confirmed.
At around 5 am, security guards patrolling the highway spotted the dead leopard lying on the road. They immediately contacted the forest department. On receiving information about the incident, a team from the forest department at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar rushed to the spot and shifted the dead leopard to the forest department nursery at Kumbhphal Shivara for further medical examination.
The recurring wildlife casualties have sparked renewed calls for intervention from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the Forest Department. Conservationists are urging authorities to adopt a science-based approach to mitigate wildlife-vehicle collisions and implement eco-friendly engineering solutions along critical stretches.
