Tensions flared late last night in the Kathe Galli area of Nashik, where a mob of over 400 people pelted stones at police forces following the removal of a controversial religious structure. The incident left 31 police personnel injured and caused significant damage to public property, including police vehicles.
The incident occurred shortly after the Nashik Municipal Corporation initiated action to remove a religious structure that had sparked controversy in recent weeks. The removal was carried out after a 15-day notice period ended. The operation began in the morning under tight police security, and the structure was successfully taken down.
Despite preventive deployment, violence erupted late at night when unidentified miscreants took to the streets. Armed with stones, the crowd launched an attack that quickly escalated, injuring dozens of police officers and damaging vehicles.
In response, the police used mild force to disperse the mob and regain control of the situation. The deployment was further strengthened to prevent any escalation of unrest.
Authorities acted swiftly following the violence. Several individuals have been detained in connection with the stone-pelting, and the police have seized 57 motorcycles belonging to suspects believed to be involved in the incident.
As of now, the situation is under control, and police continue to monitor the area. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the unrest.
Officials have urged the public to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement as they work to ensure stability in the region.
