The Bombay High Court has made an important decision regarding feeding stray dogs. The court has clarified that opposing feeding dogs in inappropriate or unsuitable places is not a crime under the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, the court has quashed the case filed against a woman and her associates for objecting to feeding dogs near the entrance of a society in Pune.
The hearing of this case was held before the bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Sandeep Patil. The court expressed a clear opinion that it is not wrong or against the law to say that dogs should not be fed on footpaths, near school bus stops, or in places where young children board or alight from buses.
The court also noted that the concerned person had informed the complainant woman and her friends that the place where the dogs were being fed was not an official 'feeding spot'. Therefore, objecting to feeding in such a situation cannot be considered a crime, the High Court concluded.
