Pre-monsoon rains have struck Marathwada with unexpected intensity, affecting as many as 680 villages across the region. The heaviest impact was seen in Jalna district, which recorded the highest rainfall among all affected areas.
In the past 24 hours alone, more than 65 mm of rainfall was recorded across 34 revenue mandals in the districts of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Nanded, Latur, and Hingoli. Jalna district was the worst hit, with 17 mandals under its jurisdiction receiving significant rainfall.
Jalna district witnessed heavy downpours, with Partur and Shrishti mandals receiving a staggering 102 mm of rainfall. Other areas recorded similarly high figures — Ranjani (79 mm), Mantha (73 mm), Shelgaon (69 mm), and Jalna city and surrounding rural areas (66 mm).
Between May 27 and 28, all eight districts of Marathwada experienced heavy showers. The average rainfall across the region was recorded at 23.6 mm, with Jalna topping the list at 44 mm, followed by Nanded (30 mm), Hingoli (27 mm), Beed (26 mm), and Latur and Parbhani at 22 mm each. Dharashiv district received 10 mm of rain.
In an unprecedented event, 16 out of 28 days in May saw rainfall — a first in the last 25 years. The average rainfall for the month has touched 177 mm, which is a staggering 1389% increase compared to the same period last year.
