The intensity of rain has persisted in Maharashtra for the past two days, with several areas recording heavy rainfall. The weather department has also issued a warning for heavy rain today, August 20. However, it is predicted that the intensity of rain in Mumbai may decrease after noon. Due to heavy rain in various parts of the state, daily life has been disrupted, and the administration has urged citizens not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

A red alert has been issued for Mumbai, suburbs, Thane, Ratnagiri, Palghar, Raigad, Pune Ghats, Nashik Ghats, and Chandrapur areas. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been given for Sindhudurg, Kolhapur Ghats, Gadchiroli, Dhule, Wardha, Nagpur, and Gondia districts. Although there is a possibility of moderate to heavy showers in Mumbai, the weather department has predicted heavy rainfall in the ghat regions of Palghar and Nashik.

Meanwhile, due to the rain, holidays have been declared for schools and colleges. All schools in the Raigad and Panvel municipal areas are closed today. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has also declared a holiday for schools. A two-day holiday has been declared in six talukas of Satara. Additionally, schools in the Thane, Palghar, and Lonavala areas are also closed. Citizens are advised to take precautions and only go out after considering the weather department's alerts, as per the administration's appeal.
