The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai as heavy rains continue to lash the city and its suburbs. The IMD has also warned of high sea waves ranging from 3.5 to 3.8 meters, posing a potential risk along the coastline. Since yesterday, Mumbai has been experiencing continuous rainfall, and the downpour intensified early this morning. As a result, waterlogging has been reported in several low-lying areas, including Andheri subway, where water levels reached up to 5 to 6 feet, severely disrupting traffic and local movement.

Central Railway services have also been affected, with delays of 15 to 20 minutes reported on multiple routes due to water accumulation on tracks. In its latest advisory, the IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rain with lightning over the next 3 to 4 hours, urging citizens to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel. The alert is in effect for Mumbai and the coastal districts of Konkan for the next 24 hours.

The rising sea level has added to the concern, with the department predicting high tide and wave surges along the Mumbai coastline. Citizens have been warned against visiting beaches, including popular spots like Marine Drive, due to the risk of strong waves and possible flooding.

Officials have appealed to the public to exercise caution and cooperate with the administration. Emergency teams are on standby, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has activated control rooms to monitor the situation and respond to distress calls. As the rain shows no sign of letting up, the authorities are urging residents to stay alert, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow weather-related advisories closely.
